Settling In

I made all my connecting flights. Yay! But sadly, my bags did not. C'est la vie. Apparently, this is a plague that strikes all of the dance volunteers who go over to India. The last 2 girls who came also lost their bags. Hopefully, they will arrive in a day or 2 in good form. Fortunately there is enough extra stuff left here at Rising Star that, I am able to cover my bases for most of the essentials that I need.

Leaving the airport was a bit disorienting. It was 3am, India time, and I walked through a see of brown faces looking for a sign with my name on it. There were so many drivers there for different people, even at 3-4am! I had to walk by the group of drivers a couple of times before I found my driver. He had been waiting for a very long time, because he'd picked up 2 other volunteers who had been traveling in Thailand. There flight had gotten in a couple of hours before mine. It made for a long late night for everyone.

We made it back to the campus around 6am, and after a very brief tour of the volunteer housing we all went to bed for a bit. So far I've met 5 american volunteers, but otherwise its pretty quiet around here because the kids are on break until thursday. All of the American volunteers who are hear have been here for at least 6 weeks, so its nice to be around people who are comfortable with the area and can give me guidance on what I'll be experiencing.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to settling in over the next couple of days and getting to know the people I will be working with for the next 2 months. Things are going well so far. I'll try to post pictures of where I'm living soon.

I hope this blog was coherent. I'm still feel pretty out of it.
